Dragon Mage: Chapter 1Eric ran down the hall in a panic. In honesty, he probably should have taken up running. He had an exercise regimen that kept him in good shape, and also rewarded him with a toned muscular structure, which permitted him to achieve feats of strength not common to his classmates. However, his ability to arrive at the particular class to which he ran was, in the words of his professor, “not exactly spectacular.”
The arrangement, however, was not entirely fair. He ended one class on one side, in the upstairs observatory of the academy, and had not more than five minutes to arrive at the next class, located on the first floor, and opposite corner of the outer building. From there, the professor would sometimes hold class outside.
Wherever it was didn't matter, it was a bit far for Eric to even think of walking. Unfortunately, the first part of his journey was usually through students, professors, and assistants using the halls in between class
The MarkThe ceilings were white. There really was nothing extraordinary about them. They were just a plain white color, like any other ceiling. There may as well have been an unwritten rule that the ceilings must be white, or an occasional beige, since those were the only colors ever seen. Walls could be any color, but the ceilings were always white. Most anything could easily contrast and be seen against such a background, but how often do we look at our ceilings?
As I relaxed one day, a cursory glance upward revealed there to be a small gray splotch, as though there was a stain from the presence of water. Interesting, I thought, since there existed no avenue for water to create such a stain in that particular spot. Yet, there it was, an eyesore in a sea of white. The lightly gray colored spot sat, in the center of the ceiling, as though taunting and challenging. Lightly colored though it was, the mark was conspicuous, I thought, to all.
Dragon Mage: Chapter 4Eric awoke in unfamiliar surroundings. He looked around and realized he was not in his room. The room, aside from the bed and a table next to it, was bare. Judging by the fact the walls were white, rather than stone or brick, he guessed it was a teacher's apartment. The room was rather narrow, being only thrice as wide as the bed, and about the same length. The bed was positioned sidelong to the window, and directly under it. Across the room, the door stood in the middle of the wall, and a wooden chair was next to the door. On the wall opposite that with the chair, there was another door.
Eric slowly sat, first confirming that his head didn't hurt from doing so. His joints were somewhat stiff, but otherwise he felt okay.
He was still wearing the clothes from the previous night. Eric panicked. He was in a teacher's apartment, in a single room, wearing the clothes he had worn for his initiation, and was missing his robe. T
Dragon Mage: Chapter 3Serene and Eric stood again on the campus, about halfway between the two buildings in the grass, under an oak tree. Serene stood waiting, looking to ensure they were still not being watched, while Eric blinked and regained his bearings.
“What do you mean I'm --”
Serene silently hushed him, simply holding a finger to her lips. “Now is not the time. I will explain later.”
Her timing had been perfect. Someone had noticed them, and called out to Eric.
“We'll talk tomorrow,” Serene said. With that, she walked away.
“Eric!” The person calling him was Rebecca Shroud. Rebecca was a dark haired, tan skinned, healthy and attractive girl who was rather attracted to Eric. She ran to him as Serene walked away. On reaching him, she slowed down enough that her impact wouldn't hurt, and threw her arms around him. “Hello!”
Eric hugged her quickly, then, in a preoccupied manner, gently
Dragon Mage: Chapter 7By the end of the following week, Eric had finally managed to accomplish the challenge Serene had issued to him, which was to suppress or hid his energies from her. Serene had not mentioned that she was a master level Guardian Psychic Mage; Eric discovered that she had reached the tenth level only after he learned how to generate his own familiar and reached his third level. In spite of the fact it meant returning to school, Eric was happy that he would be safe to leave Serene's apartment.
Serene did not let Eric leave without instruction. “First, remember that you cannot trust anyone. Second, remember that my place remains a sanctuary.”
“Thank you, Serene.”
Eric had chosen to leave in the evening, after classes were done and students and staff had abandoned the outer wall. He made his way to the corner door and stepped outside into the courtyard. He wanted to summon his familiar, but a red orb with a gold center, or worse, th
