I do have a zoom, but I didn't use it for this (or other bee shots that I've taken). I got closer than what probably some reasonably sane people would. For this photo, the lens might have been a half inch away.
I find bumblebees to be rather photogenic compared to other bees.
I think that's more of a honeybee... Wait! No, that is a bumble. Golly, it's been almost 7 years since I moved from NY to TX, and I remember them being much fatter. (There are no bumbles in TX. T-T)
Oh, I was in the middle of a slightly extensive comment on you pic with the woman touching the hem of Jesus's clothes, when my iPad messed up and I lost all that I typed. I was to frustrated to try again, sorry.
